The genesis of Anez began in the hearts and minds of two sisters. Zena and Lena were born in Iraq and immigrated to the United States in the early 2000’s. Driven by immigrant spirit and determination, they successfully adapted to their new country without forgetting the old. Zena and Lena have both had a lifelong passion for the fashion industry, and Zena graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a bachelor in fine arts degree in fashion design specializing in women’s wear. she interned under designer Maria Pinto, and has worked as tailor & commissioned designer for costumer Whitney Middleton, whose collaborators include Jamila Woods and chance the rapper.

Lena graduated with a master’s degree in biomedical science, and has used her strong attention to detail in her partnership with her sister.

Zena and Lena felt that the options for ethically and sustainably made clothing in their new country were limited. Anez’s design philosophy is inspired by traditional Middle Eastern cultural garb and encompasses a fusion between wearable versatility, sustainability, and size-inclusivity. They aspire to use natural biodegradable fabrics such as silks and wools with zero waste in mind. The pieces are designed to fit multiple body types comfortably. Timeless silhouettes, luxurious fabrics and colors, and purpose inspire the line. Our clothing is American-made and handcrafted with the highest ethical standard. They take in mind that women want to dress more modestly because of their background but they also want to be fashion forward. They hope to continue and harness the next wave of fashion; sustainability and empower all of the women they touch.
